Clifton Hall House is the Great House of
Clifton Hall Plantation dating back to 1656.
This house is of solid coral stone. The house
is about 800 feet above the East Coast of Barbados, where there are constant
breezes all year round and the house is cool everyday of the year.
The main house is two storied with large
rooms. On the ground floor are the dining room and sitting room and office
/study. This is surrounded on three sides by an eight foot gallery of marble
tiles. There is a kitchen, laundry room, one bathroom, and a sitting room
with fire-place, and two small rooms which are used for changing rooms for
the pool. On the western side of the main building there is an area used for
a bar and wine storage room.
Upstairs is the master bedroom with dressing
room and bathroom, and five other bedrooms, one full bathroom and sitting
room. There is also an attic for storage.
The outbuildings comprise two rooms which are
used for storage. A three car garage and stables. There is a water storage
tank which holds 45,000 gallons of water for agricultural storing and a
shade house of 1,500 sq.ft.
This magnificent house has been featured in
the U.S magazine “ Town and Country” and the Canadian magazine “City and
Country Home “. It has been designated a house of Historic and Architectural
interest by Barbados National Trust.
